For pitched tiled or tin roofs from 15° to 90°. The FS is fixed (it doesn't open) and comes double glazed as standard. The letter in the size code sets the width (C = 550 mm, M = 780 mm, S = 1140 mm) and the number sets the height. C sizes are made to fit between rafters at 600 mm centres.

FS skylights need a VELUX flashing kit to suit your roof, sold separately: EDW for tiles and low-profile metal such as corrugated, EDL for slate or shingle. For flat and low-pitch roofs from 0° to 60°, and a common way to replace an old plastic dome: VELUX makes 11 FCM sizes to suit common dome sizes (a collar adaptor may be needed). The FCM sits on an upstand (curb) built on the roof, and VELUX recommends a slight 3° to 5° pitch so water runs off the glass. The four-digit size code is shared across the flat-roof range, so an FCM, VCM and VCS with the same code fit the same opening.

As a rough guide, aim for skylight glass area of about 5 to 10% of the room's floor area. Go towards 5% if the room already has good windows, and towards 10% if it's very dark or south-facing. For example, a 10 m² bathroom suits about 0.5 to 1.0 m² of glass, which is roughly an FCM 3030 (0.60 m² of glass) or an FS M06 (0.75 m² of glass). If the room gets strong afternoon sun, add a VELUX blind to control heat and glare.
For pitched roofs, the FS width also has to suit your rafter spacing. C sizes (550 mm wide) suit rafters at 600 mm centres without cutting a rafter. Wider M and S sizes may need framing work, so check with your builder. Still unsure? Send us your room size and a photo of your roof and we'll suggest a size.
Example: an FCM 3046 is 870 × 1275 mm overall, with 775 × 1181 mm of glass. That's about 0.92 m² of daylight.

Because the skylight is only part of the job. Depending on your roof and ceiling, installation can include cutting and framing the roof opening, fitting the flashing, building and plastering the light shaft, painting, and power for electric models. That’s why the prices on this page are product only and installation is quoted separately.
How it’s flashed and installed matters most, so don’t cut corners there. Each FS uses a VELUX flashing kit made for your roof type: EDW for tiles and low-profile metal, EDL for slate or shingle. FCM flat-roof skylights sit on a curb with custom-made flashing, and VELUX recommends a slight 3° to 5° pitch so water runs off. The VELUX warranty on the skylight is 10 years (3 years on blinds, electric and solar parts). Not sure about your roof? Ask us before you buy.
VELUX double glazing is standard and blocks heat: VELUX rates it at about 75% of radiant heat blocked on the FS and about 70% on the FCM. For a room that gets strong sun, add a VELUX blind (in VELUX testing, its honeycomb blinds cut heat by about 70%), or choose an opening model so hot air can escape.

A fixed skylight is sealed and doesn’t open. It’s the most affordable way to add daylight. An opening skylight (manual, solar or electric) lets fresh air, steam and heat out, which suits bathrooms, kitchens and laundries. Solar and electric models close themselves when it rains.
Usually, yes. The VELUX FCM is made for flat and low-pitch roofs from 0° to 60°, and VELUX makes 11 FCM sizes to suit common acrylic dome sizes (a collar adaptor may be needed). For fresh air as well, the manual VCM and solar VCS come in the same size codes.
Both work. Our own installers fit VELUX skylights across Melbourne, so ask us for a free quote. Or buy online and have your builder or roofer fit it with the matching flashing kit. Installation must meet building and roofing requirements, so use a qualified installer.
VELUX glass has a NEAT coating on the outer pane. Sunlight helps it break down dirt and rain rinses it away, so it needs cleaning less often. GGL and GPL roof windows also rotate so you can clean the outside from indoors.
Overall size is the outside of the frame, which is what has to fit your roof. Glass size is the clear area you see from inside, which is what lets light in. Glass size is always smaller.
VELUX skylights come in standard sizes, each with a size code. Pitched-roof FS skylights run from FS C01 (550 × 700 mm) to FS S06 (1140 × 1180 mm), and flat-roof FCM skylights from FCM 1430 (460 × 870 mm) to FCM 4672 (1275 × 1935 mm). Every fixed size is in the tables above.
