Here in Australia we have a climate of extremes. Intense summer heat can trap heat in excess of 60°C in a poorly ventilated roof space. Conversely, our cold winter nights lead to condensation and damp accumulating in our roof cavities contributing to problems with dangerous mould, mildew and accelerated deterioration within the roof space, further more exposure to prolonged dampness rapidly reduces the effectiveness of insulation.
These problems can be easily avoided by introducing continuous air flow all year round. Extracting hot stale air from the roof space in the summer months will reduce the temperature in the home, and in the winter having a continuous supply of fresh air will remove nightly condensation to prevent mould and mildew damage.
